I am proud to be am American in this beautiful land of California (which use to be Mexico historically).

But I also proud of my Indigenous Mexican Roots, same as how I embrace the Hebrew Roots of my faith. 

(Plus I never really knew my biological father unfortunately, so keeping my current last name is no value to me)

My grandmother would always point to Guanajuato, as where our family is from. And knowing what I know about colonial surnames from history, and the lost of tribal and cultural identity...

 For this reason I dont use or accept terms such as Hispanic or Latino to define myself. Especially on questionnaires about my racial background; rather I normally choose native American as my ancestors are from the continental land of the Americas (Mexico).

Though my hopes are to continue my wife's cultural and tribal naming custom, of naming children based on what time of day they are born (will be our children's middle name)...

I hope to one day reclaim an indigenous surname for myself, likely purepecha: Kristopher Onnyx-Okinyi Tsanda

I can even wear my onyx tungsten wedding ring to match the name.
