"Trail Dust June 3, 2012, Ouch, That Hurts!
Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"
Romans 10:17 "So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ"
Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"
Early last Saturday morning I hauled Sundance and Whiskey out to pasture and then headed for the Parkfield Rodeo.
I spent both Saturday and Sunday working the stripping chutes unsaddling the broncs and pulling the flank ropes off the bulls.
I had several opportunities to share the gospel of Christ with the cowboys behind the chutes but Mike Mosby of Ride For The Brand Ministry had the ultimate opportunity to demonstrate the power of God's word.
While riding as pickup man one of the saddle broncs jumped the arena fence landing in the return alley with both front legs through the pipe rails of the alley fence with his head down, and Jessie Williams who won the event was still in the saddle which threw him chest forward into the top rail.
Jessie was knocked off the bronc and stumbled around looking for a place to get out of the way of the now frantic horse running up and down the alley looking for safety. Mike yelled for him to get behind the tree. Just happened to be a large Oak tree along the alley fence.
Jessie staggered behind the tree as Mike jumped off his big sorrel pickup horse and grabbed hold of Jessie as the bronc went running by them once again. Jessie collapsed and grunted out "call the EMT, I can't breathe".
Mike said the EMT will get here but first I am going to pray for you and commanded that Jessie's lungs be filled with air and that his chest be made whole as he breathes in the breath of life. Mike climbed out of the alley as the EMT arrived and saw Jessie stand up and walk away telling the EMT he was fine.
Jessie came around to the catch pen where Mike was and threw his arms around Mike and gave him a big hug and said "you are right, it is all about believing isn't it!" For the rest of the rodeo Jessie's ride was the talk of the town....not that Parkfield is all that big. Observers were saying he'll be sore tomorrow and need some Advil.
Sunday morning came and they were still talking about Jessie but the tune had changed a bit.....now they were talking about how Jessie and his wife attended the Saturday night dance and Jessie was feeling no pain on the dance floor.
Where did Jessie get his faith? From hearing the word of God, that is where it came from.
Why did Mike believe that Jessie needed the healing touch of the Master's Hand more than an EMT? Because he knew that the words of Psalm 119:105 hold true.
Mike marveled at his command for Jessie to get behind the tree in order to seek safety and made the connection that Christ was hung on a tree.
Why don't we get behind the tree/cross for our protection instead of standing out in front of it? God is our provider, our healer, our protection and all we have to do is stand behind Him and believe His word.
Where do you look when you need protection, when you need healing? Do you look to Christ or to the EMT? Remember that when you ride, He rides with you. We just need to seek Him, hear His word, and let Him light up our path.
Happy Trails,
Ride For The Cross
